PEOPLE wanting to cut down the amount of rubbish they throw away can hear from Tewkesbury’s Cate Cody in Wroughton tonight (NOv 16) when she'll host a talk about how she reduced her family’s waste to a wheelie bin a year.

Local Green activist Talis Kimberley-Fairbourn has organised the event which will be held at Wroughton Library from 7.30pm.

Talis said: “Waste and recycling are things very many of my neighbours want to see done better, and want to have more opportunities to do better themselves.

“I visited the waste unit at Cheney Manor recently; I was impressed by the commitment of the staff and the variety of ways they seek to recycle as much as possible, but it’s still saddening to see so much arrive there that could have been reduced or reused before ending up in the waste collection.”

Talis has been working with neighbours to create a community list of all the ways things can be recycled, or, as she puts it, ‘usefully passed on’.

“So much that we throw away ends up being burned for fuel overseas," she added. "Maybe that’s a little better than landfill, but it could be better. Getting waste and recycling right should be the easy end of things – reusing, repairing, sharing, composting, minimising packaging, passing things on usefully, and learning to change what we acquire in the first place.”

“I’m looking forward to hearing Cate’s ideas and experiences.”

Entry to the talk is free but donations are welcomed.
