PARKING restrictions on Redhouse Way will be discussed at a meeting this Friday.

Residents and others who regularly use the road are being asked for their views on proposed parking restrictions.

Complaints have seen the council propose double yellow lines along the north side of the road, from the junction with Tortworth Road to the Learning Campus car park entrance.

They have also suggested painted double yellow lines along the south side of Redhouse Way, 10 metres either side of the junctions with Fitwell Road, Gaveller Road and Muirfield (east and west).

Bollards would be installed along the south side of the road, preventing cars from parking up on the kerb.

The Redhouse Way plans will be on display at a drop-in meeting at North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson’s Orbital Centre offices on Friday.

Gemma McCracken, ward councillor for St Andrews, said: “Redhouse Way is used by lots of people, not just residents.

“We need as many people as possible to come and look at the plans and give their thoughts. If they don’t, it won’t change.”

The meeting, which is open to all, will also see plans for safety measures in Thamesdown Drive displayed.

John Stooke, formerly a Haydon Wick parish councillor, wants to see red light cameras installed on the road.

“I welcome this kind of gathering as it will be able properly to listen to local concerns and respond with action if they so decide,” he said.

The meeting will be attended by council highways officers, the leader of the borough council, ward councillors, neighbourhood police officers and Angus Macpherson, the Police and Crime Commissioner.

The meeting will take place at Justin Tomlinson’s Orbital Centre office on Friday, November 17, 5.30pm-7pm.

Those unable to make the meeting, but who would like to comment on the Redhouse Way plans, can speak to their ward councillor or write to the highways team: trafficmanager@swindon.gov.uk or Traffic Management, Swindon Borough Council, Civic Offices, Swindon, SN1 2JH.

The deadline for comments is December 18.
