HUNDREDS of pupils watched a dog show off impressive tricks during a special assembly to mark Anti-Bullying Week.

Janet Garrett from Janet’s Puppy Skool brought her six-year-old Bouvier Des Flandres dog Mack to Ruskin Junior School yesterday to demonstrate to staff and students how perseverance can pay off.

Janet said: “It takes a lot of perseverance to teach a dog these tricks and I’ve taught him in a kind, positive and rewarding way.

“This is the most nerve-wracking thing Mack’s done since he appeared in Annie on stage when he was one.

“The children were absolutely perfect, they clapped and cheered and waved at us, and the teachers made us feel incredibly welcome.”

Karen Agenbar, safeguarding lead at the school, said: “It was a really good assembly, Mack went down a storm.

“We wanted to show the pupils that Mack learned these tricks through perseverance and kindness.

“It’s better to treat people kindly and considerately and everyone gets more out of it.”
