SCHOOLCHILDREN from all over Swindon took part in a pantomime-themed singing festival at the Wyvern Theatre yesterday.

A grand total of 245 pupils from 29 infant, junior and primary schools were on stage belting out festive songs while dressed as characters from popular Christmas pantomimes.

This year’s production,‘A Right Pantomime’ was organised by Swindon Music Service.

The service, which is run by Swindon Borough Council, organises the shows three times a year to give children the opportunity to sing in a professional theatre with a live six-piece band.

The band is made up of teachers who teach music in schools and at Swindon Young Musicians.

Lynn Hawkins, who organises the event, said: "It was great to work with the wonderful children who make my job so enjoyable.

"The show was full of fun and laughter and I hope everyone involved thoroughly enjoyed the experience."

Coun Fionuala Foley, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services and School Attainment, said: "Each year, Swindon Music Service do a brilliant job of producing these festivals, which are a fantastic opportunity for many children across Swindon to get experience of being on a professional stage. I hope the children had lots of fun."
