Two members of staff from the McDonald’s restaurant on Cockleberry Roundabout have raised £1,200 for the Ronald McDonald House Charity after getting sponsored to shave their heads for the charity.

Michelle Kinch and Claire Miller, who are both crew members at the restaurant, plucked up the courage to shave their heads and were supported by their fellow crew members.

The Ronald McDonald House Charity (RMHC) is an independent charity which provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation for families with children in hospital. There are currently 15 Ronald McDonald Houses across the UK. The Houses are open 365 days a year and in 2016, over 7000 families stayed in a Ronald McDonald House, using the space to relax, eat and be together, away from the stress of the hospital ward.

Michelle Kinch, who works in customer care at the Cockleberry Roundabout restaurant, said: “It is very important to me to help raise money for the RMHC and so to really test myself and raise as much money as possible, I thought that a head shave would be the perfect challenge. It was great to take part with Claire, as it was quite a daunting experience – it was good to have her moral support.”

Carl Room, franchisee and owner of the restaurant on Cockleberry Roundabout, said: “I’m really proud of both Michelle and Claire for taking on the tough challenge of shaving their heads to help raise funds and awareness for such a fantastic cause. Their enthusiasm was contagious and helped them to raise such an impressive sum of £1,200. It is important that we all rally together as a community to help make a difference for important causes like the Ronald McDonald House Charity and support them in continuing all of their excellent work for local families with ill children.”
