PLACES for Swindon’s annual Santa Fun Run are selling faster than ever before.

About 500 people will take part in the 5km festive dash at Lydiard Park in less than two weeks and entries are being snapped up quicker than in any other year since the tradition began in 2012.

Walkers, runners, joggers, buggy-pushers and dog-walkers will wear the iconic red suits, hats and fluffy white beards for the Christmassy get-together to raise money for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Swindon Downs Syndrome Group. It is hoped they will raise between £5,000 and £6,000.

Swindon Phoenix Club President Nigel Causton said: “We are seeing a lot of group entries for various reasons this year who are passionate about supporting the two amazing charities who will benefit from the event.”

Louis King, who is running alongside his colleagues from RAF Brize Norton, said: “The Swindon Santa Run is the perfect event to bring friends and colleagues together in the festive spirit to support two well-deserving local charities who both provide an outstanding service in their respective fields.

“The event not only allows us to connect with the community but also maintains our fitness levels, which is an integral part to our role in the military.”
