HOSPITAL chiefs have smokers in their sights.

Patients, their families and the wider public have been asked for their feelings about smoking at the Great Western Hospital.

They have been tasked with completing in an online survey.

The quiz, which asks people about the placement of smoking areas at GWH, will help managers boost awareness of the hospital’s smoke-free status.

Despite the presence of cigarette butts near the entrance of GWH, smoking is only permitted in two smoking shelters.

A spokeswoman for the Great Western Hospital NHS Foundation Trust said: “Smoking on hospital sites has long been a contentious issue and, together with our neighbouring NHS trusts, we are asking local people for their thoughts and feelings on the matter.

“The Great Western Hospital has been smoke-free for many years but, from next year, work will be taking place to increase awareness of these rules.

“This, together with the feedback from the online surveys, will help us build a truly tobacco-free NHS culture in Swindon.”
