A MAN who launched a violent road rage attack on a pensioner has been jailed for 16 months.

James Zalavolgyi-Carr and his partner were 'like a pack of wild cats' when they set about a 69-year-old motorist in the morning attack.

After hearing the 32-year-old was on bail for a racially-aggravated road rage attack on a woman at the time, a judge jailed him.

Colin Meeke, prosecuting, told Swindon Crown Court the victim was on the way to see his doctor in his soft top Mercedes with the roof down in June.

On the Magic Roundabout shortly before 9.30am he saw a Land Rover being driven badly, revving up and speeding in front of him in Queen's Drive.

As they waited at the Whitbourne Road junction lights he told the driver he had the manoeuvres recorded on his mobile phone, accepting he shouted and swore.

Mr Meeke said Zalavolgyi-Carr, who was the passenger, and his partner, the driver, both leapt from the vehicle screaming and shouting.

Witnesses said the defendant then punched the pensioner eight to 10 really hard blows, snatching his walking stick from him when he picked it up to protect himself.

Zalavolgyi-Carr then snapped it in two and then threw it back into the car and tried to grab at his mobile phone, which he had sat on.

The defendant then lashed out at another man, who has never come forward, sending him to the ground.

Meanwhile Zalavolgyi-Carr's partner took the victim's keys from the ignition and gave them to her boyfriend, who threw them across the road.

The pair them drove away from the scene leaving the pensioner, who has a heart condition, needing a CT scan on his head injury.

When he was questioned Zalavolgyi-Carr told the police that the older man had come at him and he was just acting in self defence.

And even after pleading guilty he put forward a basis, minimising what he had done, which he eventually dropped before a judge heard evidence.

Zalavolgyi-Carr, of Pearce Close, Stratton, pleaded guilty to causing actual bodily harm and threatening behaviour.

The court heard that on Christmas Eve last year he launched a racially-aggravated assault in another road rage incident.

Richard Williams, defending, said that his client had asked him to apologise in open court to the victim of his attack.

He said he was greatly concerned about his father and his partner and children should he be jailed for what he has done.

Jailing him Judge Robert Pawson said: "You completely lost it and not for the first time.

"You and your partner are described by one witness as behaving like a pack of wild cats, screaming and shouting.

"You were on bail for a racially-aggravated road rage attack on a woman on Christmas Eve last year."
