STATIONERY giant WHSmith have donated several hundred new books to Swindon Young Carers.
The retailer, headquartered in Swindon, took part in the project following a meeting earlier in the year with North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson MP, who named the charity as one to support.
Rachel Airey, head of children’s books for WHSmith said: “We are committed to making a positive contribution to the communities in which we operate.
“As the UK’s leading bookseller and stationer, promoting literacy is a key priority for us and we are delighted to be supporting the Swindon young carers with a donation of books today.”
The books have been donated to local young carers who look after someone in their family who has an illness or physical or learning disability.
Justin Tomlinson said: “Young carers not only make an incredible contribution and sacrifice to their loved ones, but they also support their entire communities.
“I meet with lots of local businesses to press them on the importance of supporting local charities and recognising those who contribute to the community in which they are based.”
