SWINDON’S lonely can look forward to some Christmas Day cheer.

The Community Centre at Old Town’s Christ Church will again run its Christmas Day meal for those who face spending the festive season on their own.

The event organisers have called for volunteers to help get people to the Cricklade Street centre

Now in its second year, the event proved so successful last Christmas that organisers have decided to double the places.

The centre will serve 80 three-course Christmas dinners, followed by carol singing and the Queen’s Speech.

The event has already proven popular – with just 20 places left.

Chris Smith, manager of the Christ Church Community Centre, said: “People have been so generous and we have received a fantastic amount of donations towards the day from people and companies who have asked to remain nameless.

“We have also been lucky enough acquire enough volunteers for the lunch itself. However, we still do need help with transporting people to and from the event.

“The day wouldn't be possible without the huge number of volunteers who give up their time to help in the lead up to the event and also on the day itself.

“If you will be on your own or know of anyone who will be on their own this Christmas please make contact with me so that we can book this person in.”
