ROUGH sleepers in Swindon have a little more protection from the winter chill thanks to the dedicated volunteers at Dressability.
A large bundle of fleecy blankets stitched by the charity’s helpers were handed over to Swindon Nightshelter, Threshold Housing and the Broadgreen Breakfast Club just as the festive season got under way.
It was the second year Dressability’s seamstresses have turned their stitching skills to helping the homeless using material donated by a fabric company in Leicestershire.
Normally the charity based in West Swindon helps the disabled and elderly by adapting their own clothes so they can feel comfortable and dress themselves without difficulty.
But in recent months it has started helping other good causes, including providing basic sewing kits for girls in Africa and making pencil cases for the Rotary organisation’s shoebox scheme.
It is currently appealing for anyone with haberdashery they don’t need to donate it. Anyone interested can get in contact through the website at dressability.org.uk or by calling 01793 512878.
