A PASSENGER caught in a horror bus crash has spoken of her “terrifying” ordeal.

Police, firefighters, the electricity board and engineers from Thamesdown attended the accident, which happened at 6.15pm.

Passenger Michelle Commons, 21, from Toothill, was with her mother on the bus when it hit the shelter.

She said: “We were just leaving the stop, then all of a sudden it got really bumpy. I didn’t know what was happening. Then we crashed into the shelter.

“The driver said to us that he didn’t know what happened – he just lost control.

“It was terrifying and a struggle to get off the bus. The glass was everywhere.”

Jamie Brewer, 25, from Wichelstowe, witnessed the crash. He said: “It looked like there were no brakes on the bus. It’s a good job nobody’s been killed.”

One woman, 30, who asked not to be named, suggested of the driver: “He must have felt light headed.” Her friend added: “Someone could have been killed.”

Alex Chutter, Thamesdown general manager, said on Wednesday night that the bus driver and his passengers had escaped without injury

He said: “The safety of our passengers, drivers and other road users is a top priority. We are carrying out an immediate investigation into the circumstances behind this incident.”

Wiltshire Police said they were not treating the crash as suspicious, but that officers had launched an investigation.

Thamesdown’s Alex Chutter added: “We are assisting the police as they carry out their enquiries.”

Firefighters from Drove Road fire station were called to the crash shortly after 7.50pm. They left at 8.30pm.
