DRIVERS are warned to expect disruption along Great Western Way.

A borough council spokesman said work was already under way to widen the pavement and cycleway along Great Western Way, alongside B&Q.

He said: “The work may take up to six weeks to complete and we will need to close one lane between Barnfield Roundabout and Galton Way (eastbound) for about a week. This is likely to be in February half-term outside of peak traffic hours in order to keep disruption to a minimum. Pedestrian and emergency access will be maintained at all times, with pedestrians diverted to the southern footway where necessary.”

The work comes as work at Junction 16 wound down over the Christmas period. The spokesman added: “Junction 16 was quiet over the festive period due to the Christmas roadworks embargo, but once again has become a hive of activity as part the M4 Westbound exit slip road was resurfaced at the weekend.

“Elsewhere, lamp columns continue to be erected around the site, drainage works continue, while gullies and kerbing are being installed. Preparations have begun for the construction of traffic islands with ducting being installed.”
