A ROBBER made off with hundreds of pounds in a raid on an Old Town bookmaker.

Police have appealed for any information that could help find the suspect – who left staff shaken in the raid.

Officers were called to Coral, Victoria Road, at 8.40pm on Friday evening following reports of a burglary.

A spokeswoman for Wiltshire Police said: “An unknown suspect walked in to the premises and threatened staff.  An amount of money was taken - no staff were injured in the incident, although they were obviously shaken.”

The robber made off with "hundreds" of pounds in cash.

Police continue to hunt for the suspect, with officers appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

“If anyone heard or saw anything suspicious around this time in this area please contact police on 101,” a spokeswoman said.

There were suggestions from neighbouring shops that the robber may have been armed. This has not been confirmed by police.

One shopkeeper said: “It’s a shock. You’d have thought it’s Friday night, it’s a busy time. There were no punters [in Coral]. He must have kept an eye on it.”

To report information about the burglary, call Wiltshire Police on 101 or anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
