AN ORDER banning lorries from a town centre backstreet could be axed.
Council officers want to revoke an order stopping vehicles of more than three tonnes from using the Commercial Road alley.
The “historic” order covers the alleyway behind the Rolleston Arms.
In a statement on why the application has been made, borough officers said: “An investigation was carried our and it appears vehicles for The Rolleston Arms unload in Curtis Street and the fruit and veg shop in Commercial Road unloads its goods at the front of the shop, so there is no longer any need for Light Goods Vehicles (LGVs) servicing these premises to enter the alleyway.
“As the access to the alleyway is a very tight turning in from Deacon Street, LGVs are not likely to use the alleyway as a short cut.”
They said that councillors for the area had raised “no concerns” to the plans.
Residents have until February 9 to comment on the proposals.
