A BIKE-RIDING pervert who indecently assaulted five women in and around Coate Water on the same evening has been banned from talking to women he does not know - unless he has a decent excuse.

Father-of-two Paul Jennings was put on a three-year community order and told to attend a sex offenders' programme.

And the 23-year-old was also banned from approaching women he does not know in the open air unless for legitimate reasons for five years under a sexual offences prevention order.

Jennings rode up behind his victims, aged between 28 and 44 years old and many of whom were out jogging, before touching their backsides.

And when some of them fought him off he stopped his bike in front of the terrified victims before making lewd comments and riding off.

As well as admitting the five incidents on the evening of Tuesday, April 17, Jennings also confessed to seven similar offences.

Claire Marlow, prosecuting, told the court about the spate of offending on the spring evening.

She told how the first victim was out jogging just before 7pm when Jennings cycled up behind her and matching her speed he grabbed one of her buttocks. The 31-year-old woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, looked to her side to see him puckering his lips as if to kiss her.

She shouted at him to let go but Jennings cycled forward and turned his bike across her path before blowing a kiss at her and cycling off.

At about 7pm a 28-year-old jogger was running with a friend when he cycled up, grabbed her between the legs. He also stopped in front of her, then winked and smirked before riding off.

Shortly after, a female cyclist, aged 36, who was listening to her iPod was pushing her bike up a slope when he came up behind her and touched her in a similar way.

A little earlier, Jennings cycled up to a 40-year-old woman jogging on Marlborough Road towards Coate Water and said Oh sexy' before grabbing at her buttocks. He then said Oh sexy, you're sexy, you're sexy you are' before letting go and cycling off.

The last of the attacks at about 10pm took place when he approached another woman, aged 44, who was waiting for a bus at the entrance to the park and said Hello gorgeous'.

She walked off but he followed and grabbed her from behind between the legs, only letting go when she hit him with a karate chop to the arm.

When Jennings was arrested he admitted what he had done, telling police he had made a mess of his life.

At an earlier hearing, prosecutor Colin Meeke said: "He said he had mucked his life up enough but had mucked it up again. He said I have a beautiful missus at home, two kids, and then I go and do stupid things like this'."

Jennings, of Welcombe Avenue, Park North, pleaded guilty to five counts of indecent assault and asked for seven other matters to be taken into consideration.

Mike Pulsford, defending, told the earlier hearing "Mr Jennings is not only ashamed of what he has done but he is very depressed and feels his life has fallen apart.

"Certainly his relationship with his partner has fallen apart but he is very anxious to maintain contact with his two young children."

Judge Douglas Field said: "Looking at these offences individually they do not amount to very serious sexual offences although any offences of this nature on an unsuspecting female out jogging or cycling in a public park is serious as far as they are concerned.

"But the number of these offences does put it into a different category and does make it serious."
