THE White Hart roundabout has reopened following work to tackle a severe gas leak.
Both the roundabout and surrounding retail units were closed this morning when reports of a gas leak began to emerge.
But the situation has now been deemed safe enough that police are letting traffic through, though the A420 to Shrivenham remains closed.
A spokesman from Wales and West Utilities said: “The gas network in the Shrivenham area of Swindon has been seriously damaged by contractors working in the area, causing a significant gas leak.
“Our engineers are now working to stop the leak and repair the damaged pipe without interrupting gas supplies to homes and businesses in the area.
“As a precaution, Shrivenham Road has been temporarily closed but White Hart roundabout and the nearby retail park has now reopened. All diversion routes are clearly signposted.”
Updates will follow.
