RESIDENTS in Park South may finally be able to park their cars beside their houses without fear of receiving a parking ticket.

Labour councillor Fay Howard has spoken of her joy at the council’s decision to begin a consultation to remove yellow lines from a section of Whitbourne Avenue.

The long-running saga has seen Park South residents constantly battling with traffic wardens as the lack of parking spaces becomes an ever increasing problem.

Back in 2015, local resident Jade Rivers claimed her family had received around 16 tickets in total.

She said: “It’s unacceptable. We have got nowhere else to move, we have to pay.”

But now the yellow lines may be removed from parts of Whitbourne Avenue, and there is a chance that the sight of little bags stuck to car windscreens will be somewhat less prevalent.

A delighted Coun Howard said: “People always get parking tickets for driving onto big patches of green because there are simply no parking places.

“For a while now we have been trying to get the yellow lines removed, and now it finally looks like they will be.

“It may result in the traffic having to slow down a bit, but it will mean that people can park beside their houses, and it’s great. It’s a win/win situation.”

The lines will not be removed along the whole of Whitbourne Avenue, but it will likely be sufficient enough for people not to worry about being ticketed anymore.

A consultation on the issue is open until Friday, February 9.
