CRAIG Moreton is taking on a marathon challenge to raise money for Children with Cancer UK.

The 41-year-old from Royal Wootton Bassett is aiming to beat his personal best time at the London Marathon in April then enjoy seeing the sights of New York during that city’s 26-mile event in November.

Speaking of why he was taking on the marathons, he said: “I always believe that my pain should be someone else’s gain.

“It’s not a nice thing for anyone to go through, let alone a child.

“I have two children - William and Shaun - and I want to help a charity that supports children and helps keep families together during such a difficult time.

“I cannot think of a better cause to run for than helping fight childhood cancer.

“My dad said I was mad but I’ve always loved running, it helps me put my mind somewhere else and relax.

“My kids like to run along with me, I’ve always encouraged them to be sporty and they like watching me compete in triathlons.

“Shaun always shouts ‘Come on daddy, run faster!’

Craig wants to dress up in a fun British-themed costume for the New York marathon and is open to suggestions

- as long as the fancy dress is lightweight.

He added: “I’ve done the London Marathon once before, last year, it was the first marathon I’d ever run.

“The atmosphere is great and everyone gets behind you, but it was painful.

“I was nearly crying by the 19th mile but I set a good time of 3hrs 52 mins.

“If I train hard and focus on beating my time, I can treat the New York one like a family holiday.”
