A sixth-form student from Ridgeway School with a passion for golf has raised more than £800 for Prospect Hospice by organising a tournament to support the Wroughton-based charity.

Seventeen year-old James Stratford organised a Junior Captain’s Golf Day tournament at Broome Manor Golf Club in memory of a grandmother he never got to meet. James raised £838.36 from the event, which took place before Christmas. “I organised the tournament on the 20th anniversary of my grandmother’s passing because I have been told how well she was looked after by Prospect Hospice and, although I didn’t know her, it’s comforting to know how well she was cared for,” says James. He added: “I would like to thank my mum, Caroline and my Dad, Richard, and Gina, Nobby, Craig, Lisa, Emma, Brendan, Sharon, Andy, Andrew and Steve for all of the help on the day and a thank you to everyone who played or helped in any way.”

Hollie Ricketts, Prospect Hospice’s Community Fundraiser, said: “I’d like to thank James on behalf of everyone at Prospect Hospice for all of his hard work and dedication in organising such a brilliant event and for supporting Prospect Hospice in memory of his grandmother. I would also like to thank everyone who helped the event become such a success.”
