MOST of the KFCs in Swindon remain closed as the company copes with a nationwide chicken supply issue

The chicken chain has hit the headlines after running out of its most popular product over the weekend due to problems with DHL.

The delivery company had been appointed alongside QSL to manage the supply and distribution of food products and packaging for more than 850 KFC restaurants throughout the UK.

All Swindon KFC outlets except for the Greenbridge branch are shut for the time being – and the only open outlet in town is stuck serving a limited menu for now.

Other businesses have benefited from the sudden shortage.

A staff member at Tennessee Chicken on Victoria Road said: “We weren’t really ready for this.

“We’re usually busy anyway but we’ve had around 30 per cent more customers over the past few days.

“It’s definitely been a very positive thing for us.”

A worker at McDonald’s in Greenbridge Retail Park said: “We’ve been really busy, there were messages in the group chat asking for people to work extra shifts.

“On Sunday we had hundreds of people coming in every hour, but since the KFC here reopened we’ve been less busy.”

KFC gave no indication of when operations would be back to normal but encouraged diners to check its website in order to find the nearest open restaurant.

A spokesperson said: “Our teams are working flat out all hours to get the rest back up and running as soon as possible – but it’s too early to say how long it will take to clear the backlog.”
