THE council is to present an update on the Dial a Ride bus service next week.

Coun Mary Martin, the cabinet member for communities and place, will speak to councillors about the meetings she has had with representatives of Dial a Ride and will speak about how the service can be more sustainable in the long run.

Currently, Swindon Dial a Ride is experiencing more demand than it has capacity to provide. However, it is thought that the organisation could, if it were to receive additional funding, expand to meet demand.

Coun Martyn met with management and committee members of Dial a Ride during 2017, listening to their concerns and trying to find out how the council can assist them with being more sustainable in future.

Coun Martin said: “This will make up part of our regular meetings with Dial a Ride which in recent months have proved very useful. I am very confident about securing the long term future of the service.”

The agenda reads: “It has been reaffirmed that this service has an important role in keeping individuals in their own home and not going into care.” The meeting takes place on Wednesday, February 28 at 6pm.
