THE Brunel Centre was this morning transformed into a body-pumping, hip-twirling dance floor as a boogying flashmob entertained shoppers.

Students and teachers from dance school DanzXpres put their hell-honed skills on display as they got down to the Bollywood beat.

The flashmob was the brainchild of dance instructor Priya Singhal, who was thrilled to see so many people take a few minutes off from their shopping to cheer on the dancers.

“We have been putting in a lot of practice and it’s fantastic for the children to be able to show everyone what they can do.”

She said that the dancers, who ranged from ages five to 40, had enjoyed learning the routine so much that they were desperate to perform it for as many people as possible.

“That’s when I thought about doing a flashmob,” a proud Priya said.

The Bollywood-inspired moves were greeted with great adulation by shoppers, who were not expecting the Brunel to be rocking quite so hard on a Sunday morning.

Amin Ragesh, 37, from South Swindon, was certainly impressed.

“It’s fantastic to see something like this – well done everyone, what a brilliant display,” he said.

The dancers did two separate performances of one of their favourite routines.

Priya added: “Swindon is such a wonderfully multicultural place and we are all very proud of our culture, so it’s great to be able to do this. It’s a big confidence booster for the children and they learn so much.”

DanzXpres hosts classes all over Swindon and no experience is required to take part, just a willingness to learn and to get down with the beat.

Linda Tompkinson, 55, from Haydon Wick, was blown away. She said: “They have absolutely made my Sunday - they were fantastic. I think it’s amazing to see people doing something that they are so clearly passionate about and clearly love doing. A brilliant bit of entertainment.”
