A Met Office forecaster said: "Any morning rain will clear away to the west with snow showers following in from the east to reach most parts. It will be very cold and feel it in the strong winds. The maximum temperature will be 4 °C.
"Tonight the snow showers will continue for a time before a spell of more persistent and potentially heavy snow pushes in from the southeast during the early hours. The minimum temperature will be -5 °C."
