A CARE home resident celebrated her 103rd birthday this week.

Margery Skews enjoyed a party with friends and staff on her special day at Quarry Mount care home on Monday.

Margery, her sister and her father all ran the Nash sweet shops that used to be dotted around Swindon - one on Rodbourne Road, one near the town hall, and one on Wood Street.

Margery said: “We all worked so hard - hard work is the secret to my long life.

“I love anything about the royal family and I’m looking forward to the royal wedding in May.”

Sue Harris, director of Quarry Mount care home said: “I’m sure the royal wedding will be another excuse for a celebration at Quarry Mount.

“Margery is the only surviving member of her family. - her brother died in the First World War and she still speaks very fondly of him.

"She likes chocolate and is partial to a glass of sherry.

"She will also sing if you ask her nicely.

“Her stuffed bear Baboo is her constant companion.”
