A PSYCHOLOGIST trudged through eight miles of snow in order to make it to work during the recent bad spell of weather.

Now Jon Freeman, a clinical psychologist, has been announced as the winner of medical Director Guy Rooney’s competition to find the longest walk to work during the wintry weather at the beginning of March.

Jon walked eight miles in total from his home in a Wiltshire village to the Great Western Hospital during the heavy snow throughout Friday, March 2.

He said: “I would definitely do it again. I’ve worked here for nine years and there was no doubt that I would walk in during the snow.”

Guy Rooney said: “It was a very close competition - it was amazing to see the effort that people made to get here.”

There were ten runners-up to the main prize, who will each receive a bottle of wine.

Teams who work in the Swindon community also made a valiant effort during the hazardous conditions, with many people working on their days off to get out to patients in cut-off areas.

There will be a separate presentation to celebrate the actions of the trust's community staff.
