A COUPLE are celebrating after their beloved pointer Kanix Chill was named best in show at Crufts this year.

Sigurd and Kari Wilberg, based in Cricklade, have been breeding pointers for 37 years and can boast to have the top winning male pointer ever.

They are renowned for being the top breeders for pointers in the country with 107 challenge certificates to their name. For a dog to be awarded the title champion it has to have won three challenge certificates at championship shows. This year their champion dog won multiple awards, including Best of Breed in the Gundog category, which was out of 4000 dogs and Reserve Best in Show which is the second highest honour you can win.

“We were over the moon when she won the Gundog category but then to see her win Reserve Best in Show, that was very emotional. It made it all worth it, it was a great win,” said Kari.

Kanix Chille, now eight, will be retiring at the top of her class following her final show.

Crufts Judge, Keith Young, said: “What a cracker. She was surely my star of the group, presented in superb condition and oozing breed type from nose to tail. Watching her round the ring was a delight, she never put a foot wrong and worthy winner of this strong group.”
