Children’s care chaos
Re: Families are out there ‘drowning’ article in Wednesday 21st advertiser.
How many others saw the irony in councillor Claire Ellis’ comments which called for the council to improve the services to our most vulnerable. As a member of Mrs May’s self-called ‘nasty party’ one would have thought that Councillor Ellis would have been immune to the misery inflicted on those less fortunate.
That the budget for children’s social care will overspend by £3.9m and the services provided are grossly inadequate, it would appear our Conservative government and Conservative run council are equally inept at overspending and underspending!

Add drives to houses
While I agree with some of what John Norman (March 22 ) has to say and I’m sure it would be a cash cow for the council, I can’t help thinking that if all the houses built over the last 25+ years in Swindon all had a drive then people wouldn’t have to park off road.
And the £55,000 spent on trees and lights on Greenbridge roundabout would help in putting in extra parking spaces in residential areas. I’m sure that most of these people don’t want to park off road but with the roads as busy as they are its the only choice they have. I deliver for a supermarket all over Swindon and people that park on corners, roundabouts and bends in the roads are the ones who should be ticketed. Also I’m sure Mr Norman has a nice drive to park his car on.

Windows of opportunity
I agree with John Stooke, to have fun with the nuisance callers.
If they mention Windows I say with glee “I am looking for a window cleaner! Can you hang on whilst I get a pen and paper?” They ring off while you are talking to them! Sometimes with other callers, I tell them that you are through to the ‘Home of the Bewildered’. I will call for Matron. They always ring off.
Another one is “I know that you are speaking English, but I cannot understand you. Please put it in writing.”
It is just not the OAPs that get sucked into this. My son of 49 did and they cleaned out his bank account right to the limit of his overdraught. The bank of Mum and Dad had to put this right.
Have fun on your phone. I do when dealing with fraudsters.

Double standards
I’ve been watching Expendables 3 on Channel 5. I’ve just seen a scene where a female bouncer has beaten a group of men and is approved and recruited based on her violence towards men.
Now correct me if I’m wrong but if the roles were reversed this would be absolutely slammed in the news and online as being sexist and misogynistic. Double standards all round.
