Swindon’s Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) will be open for longer from this Sunday.

Swindon Borough Council said the opening hours will be extended in order to cope with an anticipated increase in demand during the spring and summer period.

The recycling centre will be open for an extra hour from 8am to 5pm on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, while the site will be operational from 8am until 8pm on Thursdays.

The HWRC is closed all day on Wednesdays throughout the year.

A council spokesman said: "Over the last 12 months a number of improvements have been made to the HWRC to allow residents and traders to drop off their waste and recycling far quicker than in the past.

"This includes having a dedicated lane for traders, removing them from residents dropping off household waste and recycling.

"In order to improve queuing times at the site, residents are reminded that those using the recycling centre will need to show they are a resident of the borough before dropping off their waste."

Residents can also plan their visits to the centre by using the link to the webcam which shows current queues at the site. The webcam, however, will be switched off on Wednesdays when the recycling centre is closed.
