CHART-TOPPER and The Voice Kids judge Pixie Lott appeared in a surprise good luck message ahead of a special performance by the kids at the Arts Centre today.

Pixie’s message singled out local talent Lewis Blissett, 14, who was a semi-finalist in the 2017 competition, saying “I wish you all the best of luck, especially Lewis. I know your grandmother’s there and that you’re going to bring the house down”.

Lewis’ grandmother Lorraine, 63, was the guest of honour at the charity event, after the Lewis persuaded organisers to stage the concert at the Art Centre so that his nan, who has been undergoing chemotherapy, could attend.

The Voice Kids star was joined by 2017 winner Jess Folley and a raft of other performers from the show, in support of the U Support children’s charity. This was the second charity concert by the Voice Kids stars, following a show in Southampton last year. Lewis said: “I’m happy my grandma was able to come to watch. She had to watch the show on TV because it’s recorded in Manchester and London. The other singers are fun to be around, we all get on with each other.”

Lewis’s mum Kelly, who lives in Old Town, said: “His grandma went to the auditions in 2016 before she was diagnosed with cancer in October, and so this is a great opportunity for her to see him on stage again.

It’s a very emotional performance for us, and all of Lewis’ family are here as well.”

Before the show, grandmother Lorraine said: “I’m nervous for Lewis, but I’m looking forward to the concert, very much so. I’ve heard that he has a surprise for me, but I don’t know what it’s going to be.”

Lewis performed a version of Miley Cyrus’ Twinkle Song dedicated to his grandmother, as well as Diamonds and We Found Love by Rihanna, and Dangerous Woman by Ariana Grande.

The youngster, who goes to Commonweal School, said his classmates are used to his singing antics now. “They don’t really ask me to sing – most of the time I’m already singing already. I really enjoy it so I don’t mind singing when I’m around them.”

U Support provides the opportunity for young people with life limiting conditions to attend pop concerts, theatre, and football matches.
