RESIDENTS in South Swindon are being asked to air their views on plans to redevelop the old Pope Brothers site at 13 Cricklade Street.

South Swindon parish councillor and Eastcott Labour candidate Imtiyaz Shaikh, and Eastcott councillor Paul Dixon have urged residents to come forward to have their say on the application.

Coun Shaikh said: “This is an interesting scheme that could redevelop a disused site and build some much needed housing.

“However, residents will rightly be concerned about the local parking impact of this development. That area of Old Town already has huge demand for parking and although the developer has proposed one parking space per dwelling the worry is that won’t be enough.”

The application proposes a comprehensive redevelopment of the old Pope Brothers site, including the demolition of the existing office, workshop and store to be replaced by nine two-bed flats and a single one-bed flat as well as the conversion and refurbishment of an existing building into two one-bed dwellings.

The developer has proposed as part of their application to provide one dedicated car parking space for each new dwelling.

Coun Shaikh added: “Paul Dixon and I would be interested to know residents’ views of this application and would encourage people to take a look at the application on the council’s planning portal. It is currently out for consultation so now is the opportunity to comment.”
