ANTI-WAR protestor Martin Webb protested outside the office of MP Robert Buckland to warn against further military involvement in Syria.

The 55-year-old, who lives in Old Town, told the Advertiser: “I’m here just to say that I’m against any wars, particular this war, which I believe will create more problems in an already destabilised region, and I think Theresa May should call parliament together and have a vote on it.

“I just don’t think the British should be getting involved in another war after the mess we made in Iraq. It’s the same story again.”

Possible intervention was being discussed by the Government yesterday after a poison gas attack on the City of Douma on April 7 killed at least 34 people.

The American President Donald Trump has been issuing calls on Twitter over the last few days warning of missile strikes against Syrian forces.

Mr Webb added: “I just wonder when it will all stop with Donald Trump and his rhetoric. The only reason he’s doing this is because he’s got so many problems in the US. It’s another way of a politician diverting attention away from him.”

Mr Buckland was out of his office during the one-man protest but said later: “The Government are looking carefully at the evidence here; we have an international rules-based system that must be upheld.

“As the OPCW has confirmed today in its report about the Salisbury incident, the shadow of chemical weapons is looming large at the moment. We don’t want a world where the use of these terrible devices becomes accepted. As was the case with Salisbury, we are not rushing to judgement but are assessing the evidence.”
