CARE homes across Swindon and Wiltshire will throw open their doors this weekend for National Care Home Open Day.

Managers have billed it as a chance for people to find out more about their local care home, meet residents and see what carers do day in, day out.

The national celebration coincides with the Queen’s 92nd birthday – with many care homes incorporating birthday celebrations for Britain’s longest-serving monarch.

Dan Hayes, chief executive of care home charity the Orders of St John Care Trust, said: “It’s great to see so many of our homes embrace National Care Home Open Day and host entertaining events for the community to get involved in.”

The following care homes will be opening for the day:

  • Ridgeway House, The Lawns, Royal Wootton Bassett – 11am-4pm. A birthday party for the Queen will be open to children.
  • The Cedars, High Street, Purton – 11am-4pm. They will be holding a Tai Chi workshop in the morning and Memory Café in the afternoon.
  • Abbey House, Stratton – 1pm-2.30pm. Jazz band and tombola.
  • Lansdowne Hill Care Home, Wharf Road, Wroughton. Street party, music and a showing of film A Monarch For All Seasons.
  • Miranda House, High Street, Royal Wootton Bassett. Drop-in sessions during the day.
