ROY and Silo are two male Chinstrap penguins - and like all the other penguins pairs at Central Park Zoo, they walk, play, swim and dance together.

When they decide to try and hatch a rock in place of an egg, however, they find themselves on an adventure that would mean raising a chick for real.

This is the play called Penguins - presented by Birmingham Repertory Theatre, Prime Theatre and Cahoots NI. The quirky tale promises to be a treat for family audiences, with dance, drama and interesting effects.

Running at the Wyvern on Monday and Tuesday next week, Penguins is described as a unique, engaging show for children, about friendship, fun, identity and the ever-changing meaning of family.

This new theatre and dance production was inspired by a true story reported in the New York Times in 1999, about two male penguins who together hatched an egg and became a family. It was an event that touched hearts worldwide.

The creative team includes award-winning children’s Director Paul Bosco Mc Eneaney and international Choreographer Carlos Pons Guerra.

Suitable for family and schools audiences aged three plus, the show takes place at 7pm Monday and 10.30am and 1.30pm on Tuesday.

Tickets are £9, with tickets for a family of four selling at £8 each. To book, call 01793 524481 or visit swindontheatres.co.uk.
