SWINDON joyriders will be outed on prime-time TV tonight – as 999: What’s Your Emergency returns to the silver screen.

The Channel 4 show following Wiltshire Police officers and call handlers as they tackle crime on the county’s streets.

Already, the show has featured subjects as diverse as mental health, drug dealing and burglary.

Tonight, joyriders will be in the spotlight – as the show looks at how officers deal with young men joyriding. The programme’s makers say that viewers will see police “tackle the resurgence of joyriding – with some drivers as young as 14”.

The series was filmed over three months, with film crews spending time with front line officers and control room staff.

Paul Mills, Deputy Chief Constable for Wiltshire, said: “It was a great way for the public to see what we respond to and also how officers deal with the calls from a very human perspective.”

999: What’s Your Emergency? is at 9pm tonight on Channel 4.
