Less than two months after the town was shrouded in a thick blanket of snow, Swindon locals are now enjoying beach-worthy temperatures of 25°C. With memories of the Beast from the East starting to fade, the Adver has chosen to remind readers of the transformation we have experienced in such a short space of time.

Back on March 17, bus services were halted across the town as several inches of snowfall made driving impossible in some areas. Schools and colleges were closed and policing teams were out in their 4x4 vehicles to respond to emergencies. Several overturned vehicles were lifted out of ditches.

Fast forward to April and it could hardly be more different. Sunbathing weather greets those lucky enough to spend time outside their offices.

One man happy about the changes in the town’s fortunes is Joe Mazzotta, whose family ice cream business has been running since the 60’s. He said: “I just started yesterday and it’s picking up – definitely better than it was last week.”

Particularly popular among his selection of treats are the 99 ice creams and the Knickerbocker Glories that come in a range of flavours. Joe will visit Wroughton, Wootton Bassett and Gorse Hill to supply students with their ice cream fix.

He added: “The main reason I do the job isn’t for business – I just love to put smiles on customers’ faces.”

Pleasant temperatures are set to continue into the weekend but more cloud is expected at the beginning of next week. To keep up to date with the latest weather developments, visit the BBC Weather website.
