OLD Town will get a spring clean this weekend, as scores of residents take to the streets armed with bin bags.
Around 100 people are expected to take part in the Old Town Big Clean-Up.
The event will see volunteers tackle litter in four areas: Britannia Place, along the railway path, Town Gardens and Okus, and Eastcott.
Unusually, the litter pick has been organised through the Old Town Facebook group. Organiser Steve Stimson, 42, said: “A lot of people say the same thing – that this area is dirty. Of course, we can always blame the politicians, but there are only so many resources the council and parish councils have. It’s not the responsibility of the council and parish councils: it’s the responsibility of all of us.”
He said the event was partly about “calling the bluff” of Facebook commenters.
The Old Town Big Clean Up is on Sunday, April 22, 10am-1pm. Anyone is welcome to attend. For more details of starting points, visit: www.facebook.com/events/151902348836182/.
