Here is the truth...

I REFER to Peter Smith’s recent letters in the Swindon Advertiser.

Peter Smith clearly harbours a deep pathological hatred for Israel that has blighted his ability to determine truth from myth.

Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East; 20% of the population is Arab Israeli and they have the same rights as the other 80% who are not.

The disputed territory is still controlled by the military because the Arabs, who then became the Palestinians, refused to accept a state.

That’s right, they rejected statehood in 1947, started wars in 1948, 1967 and 1973 before branching out into terrorism.

The problem for Peter Smith and others that hold such extreme views is that there has never been a State of Palestine.

Statehood has been consistently refused by successive Palestinian leaders.

Perhaps if Peter was better informed he’d reach wiser conclusions.

As for the current troubles on the Israel/Gaza border it is all down to the terror group Hamas.

To deflect away from an agenda that has brought nothing but penury to ordinary Gazan’s, they start a fight with Israel.

By supporting the Hamas agenda people like Peter Smith condemn ordinary Gazans to a miserable life under the yoke of a genocidal terror organisation that places women and children in the firing line.

I, like Michael Kemp, who I thought wrote a very factual appraisal of the situation on the Gaza border, would urge all those that are not apologists for terror to visit the website of Israel Britain Alliance, and join their campaign against the hypocrisy and hatred of the terror organisation called Hamas.

Keep a weather eye

Just over a month ago I was walking my little Westie through a snowstorm on Covingham recreation ground. Five inches deep.

I caught a virus that made me attend the doctor’s for a prescription. Unusual for me. I spent a lot of money at the chemists to alleviate the problem, to no avail.

This week I was walking my dog in shorts in the sunshine on the recreation ground. Tee shirt over my arm, it was so hot. I put it on when I entered the shops in Covingham Square, out of respectability. You cannot change the old school’s way of thinking.

My point? The people of our island have put up with this change of weather for centuries. We are a hardy independent island nation that has welcomed all to our shores in time of need.

The powers that be had better get their acts together, from council level to government level, or I strongly suspect that enough is enough is on the horizon at the ballot box from the long-suffering honest hard working British public of all colours and creeds. God forbid the alternative.
