A HIGHWORTH salon has made it through to the western regional finals of a live hairdressing competition.

Karoliina Saunders of Karoliina Saunders Hair Design joined forces with stylist Lauren Soley to produce an entry for the L’Oreal Colour Trophy.

She said: “This competition is one of the most prestigious in our industry and we were thrilled to get the chance to compete.

“Being selected as a regional finalist was an enormous accolade and we’re incredibly proud. It has made us determined to enter once again next year and hopefully progress through to the Grand Finals.”

Tasked with creating a contemporary look that included classic elements in its design, the pair also had to present a unique colour capable of setting future trends.

Karoliina created the colour for the competition while Lauren took care of the cut.

The stylists were thrilled to be one of only 30 salons across the region to make the finals which will be held at Cheltenham Race Course.

It is more than 10 years since Karoliina last entered the competition and, for Lauren it was the first time and therefore a daunting experience.

Karoliina starred in the hit TV show Extreme Hair Wars and enjoyed plenty of success alongside her team at Hair Club live events across the UK.

Karoliina added: “We decided that this was the year we really put Highworth and our salon on the map so we have embarked on a busy programme of competition and show work as well as visiting local schools to promote hairdressing as a career.”

The L’Oréal Colour Trophy began 63 years ago.

Starting with only 300 competitors in 1954, it has since welcomed thousands of talented competitors in the industry across the country.

Among the judges are MBE holders Errol Douglas and Charles Worthington.

A grand final will be held at Battersea Evolution in June.
