CONTRACTORS working on installing a new full-sized croquet lawn in Kington Langley found more than they were bargaining for when they dug up three historic milk bottles.
The bottles were buried deep underground below the club’s new lawn behind the village hall several weeks ago, leaving the committee to consider donating them to Chippenham Museum.
“When the contractors were digging the ground up, they found three really old-fashioned milk bottles, two of which are from Chippenham and Castle Combe Dairy,” said Ian Wells, vice chairman of the club.
“They are in really good condition and we have no idea when they must have been buried as the club was built some time ago. The other one has Co-op branding in raised letters on it.
“We started fundraising and applying for grants for our new pitch two years ago, and we still have about £10,000 of that £35,000 to raise but now that we’re preparing for the official opening on June 1, we are considering donating the bottles to the local museum.”
