DEMENTIA sufferers can take to the pool, as Swindon marks Dementia Action Week.

The swimming session at the Dorcan Recreation Complex is one of a programme of events and activities.

Coun Brian Ford, Swindon Borough Council cabinet member for adults’ health, said: “Unfortunately, dementia is a condition which affects a large amount of people, so it’s vital that as a town, we are as dementia friendly as possible, not just through Dementia Action Week but all year round.

“The dementia-friendly activities are a great way to find out more about dementia and how you can support people who are living with the condition so are well worth a visit.”

The programme of activities will include:

A Dementia Friendly Swim Session at Dorcan Recreation Complex, Monday, May 21, 2.45pm-3.45pm.

The Dementia Friendly Walk at the McArthur Glen Outlet Centre, Wednesday, May 23, meet 10am.

Memory Cinema at the Swindon Arts Centre, Devizes Road, Thursday, May 24, 11am.

Dementia-friendly gardening club, TWIGS, Manor Garden Centre, Friday, May 25, 10am-12pm.

Details will also be available during the week about the Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friend scheme, which lets people volunteer to support those with the condition.
