A SWINDON charity has put their royal wedding gift bag up for auction.

Already, the gift bag has attracted 55 bids on Ebay. Bids were running at £900 by the time the Advertiser went to press.

The bag is one of two given to Swindon Night Shelter representatives invited to a Windsor Castle reception for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding on Saturday.

Becky Davidson, co-founder of the Christian Cheney Manor homelessness project, said: “Part of what we do at Swindon Night Shelter is sharing God’s love and provision.

“A few people have said to us these things are selling on Ebay. I thought it was going to sit on the side, where in fact we could turn it into money that could really bless the people home here.”

She said that the bag, which includes shortbread biscuits, a large commemorative chocolate coin, order of service and fridge magnet, could go to someone who “really treasure it”.

The proceeds from the online auction would benefit the charity, which runs a night shelter, storage facilities for homeless people’s belongings and a community café.

“Everything goes back to supporting the work that we do here,” she said.

Becky was one of more than 2,000 guests invited to a special royal wedding reception for charities and community organisations: “It was amazing. It’s an experience that will stay with me forever.”
