A simple solution

I was shopping in Swindon’s Regent Street on Saturday and a little boy in floods of tears was asking for someone to help find his daddy. He had clearly become separated whilst shopping. Naturally, as a parent and grandparent, I sat with him on the bench ensuring he was in clear view of his anxious parents who I assumed would be searching for him, called the police and said that I would stay with the little fellow until either they or his dad arrived.

The boy didn’t know his last name (children tend to be called mostly by their first name), his address or any phone numbers and was only five. I did discover that he likes football! Fifteen minutes later, dad arrived and all was well so I informed the police of this to save their officers being tied up on a resolved situation.

Apart from the sorrow of seeing so many people walk on by, not stopping to help, it made me wonder why all children don’t carry a simple card with an emergency contact number. Immediate contact could have been made with dad and 15 minutes of worry averted. Just a number would do and a first name. A happy ending but it could have been so different.

Traffic woes are history

I use junction 16 on a regular basis and the roadworks have completely improved the traffic flow from Royal Wootton Bassett and I find it so easy to use.

I find some of the criticism quite over the top. I would say it was designed by people who completely understand how to design a modern roundabout. I say well done, it’s certainly improved my driving experience.

I wish they could design something similar at junction 15.

Boring sermon

What a fantastic showpiece it was when covering the wedding of Harry and Meghan on the TV. I watched it and recognised that the crowd support was exceptional.

I gave my invitation away as I had booked a haircut on the day and unfortunately, these things happen! I jest really, but on a serious note, was I the only person to become a little tiresome listening to the address/sermon given by Reverend Curry? I watched until my eyes glazed over and awoke when I heard him say, “We must get you two married”. I had time though to analyse the certain looks and facial expressions within the congregation. Lots of people will say that the sermon was uplifting but I feel that he could have covered the subject of love in about two minutes.

That being said, I know that I will be an odd one out. However it was a shame that there was a lack of cohesion between the families. There must have been some relatives who would have been decent enough to have received an invitation.

I do though hope that all works out, but it will, I am sure, leave some of Meghan’s family a little disappointed.
