IT’S time to dig out the sunscreen and wellies as the season of summer festivals kicks off, with some local music extravaganzas getting underway in the next couple of months.

Lechlade Music Festival has Scouting For Girls, Doctor and the Medics and From The Jam headlining the three-day event at Riverside Park. It runs from tomorrow until Sunday.

Scouting For Girls hit the charts with She’s So Lovely, Elvis Ain’t Dead, Heartbeat, I Wish I Was James and This Ain’t A Love Song.

Bruce Foxton, original member of The Jam and frontman Russell Hastings, from Into The Jam, will be recreating such classics as Town Like Malice, Going Underground, and Eton Rifles, while Doctor and the Medics will be notching up some faith in the Spirit In The Sky at this family friendly festival. Common People music, arts and community festival at South Park in Oxford runs on Saturday and Sunday, featuring Morcheeba, James, The Jacksons, Sparks, Maximo Park and Rob da Bank. Also heading for the park will be the mischievous Peter Rabbit and a special guest appearance on Sunday from Paddington.

Wychwood Festival gets into its stride from June 1 to June 3 at Cheltenham Racecourse. Appearing at the Gloucestershire, family-friendly festival are The Gipsy Kings, Shed Seven, Feeder, The Beat and Rankin’ Roger. Feet will be tapping along to some Flamenco flourish in Bamboleo, from the guitar masters, Gipsy Kings, veteran ska and two-tone band The Beat and Ranking Roger will get the toes twitching, while indie band Feeder will rock your socks off.

Minety Music Festival is in its second year and this year has the one and only Chesney Hawkes, the Neville Staple Band, and Bon Giovi headlining the festival which runs from June 29 to July 1. There will also be 40 artists, a shopping village, Tex Mex and log fired pizzas, and a cocktail or a prosecco bar.

For children there is free slack-lining, an assault course, indoor carving, circus skills and games.

Down in the Boondocks festival from July 20 to July 21, in a field in Malmesbury, there will be a calypso-ska style dancing party with reggae band Jeramiah Ferrari. Jeramiah grew up on a diet of Bob Marley, The Police and Michael Jackson. Jeramiah Ferrari have been supporting The Wailers on their UK tour as well as appearing at the Gomad Festival in India. WOMAD at Charlton Park, near Malmesbury runs from July 26 to July 29 bringing its renowned musical trip around the world from the Caribbean to the South Pacific, from Nigeria to Sri Lanka and even songs from a Syrian refugee camp. Bombay Bicycle Club’s frontman Jack Steadman brings his new soul-tinged sounds to WOMAD. The Original Gypsies of Camargue (four members of the Gipsy Kings) feature the Spanish Flamenco style music, Havana Meets Kingston adds a sprinkle of Latin, Bollywood Brass conjure up the taste of India and Aeham Ahmed, the refugee pianist from Syria will be singing songs of hope.
