AN annual allotment competition gets under way today.

Keen gardeners will have the opportunity to grow their fruit, vegetables and flowers up until July 7.

Judges Oliver Saunders and Theresa Page will be judging contestants on their variety and quality of fruit, vegetables and flowers, allotments will also be judged on their layout and should provide means of best water retention.

There will be a prize giving in July at the Stratton Festival, starting from 1pm.

Stratton Parish Council still have allotments available and recommend that if you want to enter the competition you should act fast and contact their open spaces team.

The parish council provides two allotment sites at St Philips Road and White Hart, Ermin Street.

There are currently vacant allotment plots at St Philips Road, Upper Stratton and this is available to non-parish residents as well as members of the parish. A full allotment patch prices begin from £58.80.
