SPITFIRES will be making a special appearance at this year's Stratton Festival.

The parish's biggest annual event returns on July 7 for another jam-packed day full of family fun and great entertainment.

Shortly after 2pm, six Spitfires from the RAF will fly over Stratton and amaze the crowds of festivalgoers.

The festival kicks off at 12pm.

Joanna Edwards, events officer for Stratton St Margaret Parish Council, said: "We are really excited about Stratton Festival, it's the showcase event for the parish council.

"The Spitfire also flew over last year, it's great to have such an iconic piece of history here.

"It's a great honour to have this famous treasure soar over the Stratton Festival this year

"We've also got a dog show with Drove Vets, which is always popular with residents and their furry friends.

"There will be lots of yummy food as we've been working with businesses in Old Town to bring lots of treats over to the festival.

"It's free to attend and it's all about raising money for the chairman's charity, which, this year, is Swindon Young Carers.

"The events team have worked their magic with local suppliers to ensure the best food is served again this year, with an array of different foods coming along.

"Watch this space for full announcement on our social media for a full list of attendees.

"All at Stratton St Margaret Parish Council hope you can come along on the day and help us make this event one to remember.

Children's entertainment on offer will include Punch and Judy, a coconut shy, Splat the Rat, plant-a-seed, a fun fair.

A new addition will be the stocks - who will be brave enough to face the sponge?

A Zumba fitness crew will take to the stage when the festival starts, followed by break-dancing and a performance by Swingout Swindon, and a lot of live music.

Organisers are still looking for stall holders for the event.
