LAWN Primary and Nursery School has unveiled its new logo, which was designed by a Year 3 pupil.

Young Sophie came up with the striking image of a tree made of hand-prints and leaves.

Swindon College student Chris Taylor helped her transform her drawing into a usable graphic logo after his BA Graphic Design tutor Dave Caton picked him to assist with the project.

The design will adorn the school's uniforms, website, children's books and signs.

Naomi Norris, Lawn Primary's staff governor, said: “We amalgamated with Lawn Pre-School a few months ago and decided we needed a new logo to go with our new name.

"We thought it would be a good idea to design the new logo rather than going to a company to have it done.

“I’m a Swindon College student myself.

"I knew that students in those courses need experience and it’s nice to have a link to the college too.

“I think it’s a beautiful design and really shows off our school and our message. Christopher has done an incredible job.

“Sophie was so excited to win.

"We presented her with an art set and she absolutely loved it, she was thrilled to get it.”

"She's looking forward to seeing her friends wear their new school uniform with her logo design."

Chris, who is from Faringdon, liaised with the school throughout the process. the school and its governors were involved at all stages and gave their approval to the final design.

The BA Graphic Design programme leader and the teaching team felt that Chris was the perfect fit for the project when they were approached by the school as he had shown a great deal of promise with some of the early work he was set on the programme.

Dave Caton said: “Chris is an excellent graphic designer who is also prolific in his output.

"If you want a logo designed and you’re on a limited timeframe, Chris will provide you with a range of potential visual solutions in next to no time at all”.
