DANCE fans have a chance to see cutting-edge new work and emerging dance talent when final year students of Rambert School’s BA in Ballet and Contemporary Dance perform in Swindon tonight.

The mixed-bill at Swindon Dance will include former artistic director of Rambert dance company Mark Baldwin’s delightful Appalachian Spring, as well as newly commissioned works by guest choreographers, with Slonimsky’s Earbox by Ashley Page, and Waiting by Wayne Parsons, an award-winning choreographer who creates narrative driven dance-theatre works that aims to push the boundaries of the genre.

The programme also includes a dance called You, me, best friends, internet, future lover, dance, by Theo Clinkard, an alumnus of the school, a choreographer, movement director and performer, who has worked with a range of companies including Sydney Dance Company and English National Opera and Matthew Bourne.

A selection of original student choreography will also be performed.

The following day, a group of students will lead a workshop with around 25 students aged 15 to 18 from the Swindon Dance Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) Scheme.

This is a great opportunity for Rambert School students to expand their teaching skills and for students of the CAT scheme to gain an insight into high-level training at a world-leading conservatoire.

The performance and workshop follow successful visits in 2015 and 2017.

Students of Swindon Dance have gone on to train at Rambert School in the past, including current third year student Ella Pileggi, who will be one of the students performing tomorrow and leading the workshop on Saturday.

Ella started her training at local dance school, Judith Hockaday School of Dance and Drama, before joining the Swindon Dance Youth Academy and then Rambert School.

After graduating Rambert School, Ella will join Danish Dance Theatre as an apprentice.

Rambert School has an international reputation for delivering world-leading vocational dance training, with an equal emphasis on ballet and contemporary dance that is arguably unique within the UK.

Tickets are for tonight’s performance are £7 - £11.
