A BAND from Swindon has been shortlisted in a competition to open for Jools Holland and Katherine Jenkins.

Sunset play American rock and will be competing against eight other acts to perform at the Boundless Summer concerts. The shortlist was whittled down from 150 submissions..

The band’s members, who are aged between 29 and 31, are James Lloyd on keyboards and guitar, Olly Bray on drums, Andrew James on the bass guitar, Ashley Hulbert on lead guitar, and Phil Ethan on vocals.

Phil, who formed Sunset, said: “It’s surreal to be shortlisted for this opportunity, especially considering we haven’t been together that long. We thought why not take a punt and see if our music is as good as we think it is and thankfully professionals in the music industry liked what they heard.

“If we win it will be massive for us because it will put us on the stage we have been thriving for. This could potentially be life changing for us.”

The band was only formed a year ago and this wouldn’t be their first taste of opening for a top artist.

In their first ever gig they were asked to open for Canadian singer and musician Billy the Kid whilst she was on tour.

Rescue Me is the name of the track the band submitted to the judges, the song is about being bored of drinking and waiting for someone to save you from yourself.

Darren Milton, a Boundless Breaking judge, said: “We were blown away by the level of talent received in the entries - we had an incredibly difficult time whittling it down. Now we need the help of the fans to decide who will win this amazing prize package - visit the Boundless Summer Facebook page and ‘like’ your favourite act.”

The judging criteria for the final round includes support on social media, and the panel is therefore calling for fans of the shortlisted acts to ‘like’ them via the Boundless Summer Facebook page

The final decision will be made on Monday when two winning acts from Wiltshire will be announced.

As well as the main prize of a 30-minute opening slot playing to a crowd of up to 5,000 people at concerts at Bowood House on July 21 and 22, the winning artists will also receive a professional recording session at Brighton Electric studios with 1,000 CD’s of their song.
