SHOCKING video footage filmed from above shows flames engulf a house in Park South.

A plume of smoke billows hundreds of metres into the air in the YouTube film, taken by drone pilot and photographer Peter Westlake-Webb.

The Keswick Road fire gutted one house and left another two with smoke damage.

More than 30 firefighters battled the blaze on Thursday evening.

Temperatures inside the house could have reached over 800 degrees centigrade at points, said Swindon station manager Gareth Evans. The fire burned so hot that objects in the house spontaneously burst into flames, a phenomenon known as flash over.

Luckily, all the fire alarms in the terrace of three houses on Keswick Road had working fire alarms.

Glyn Moody, group manager for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, urged homeowners to make sure their fire alarms were in good working order. People can request a Safe & Well visit from fire advisers. The free visits cover fire safety, making an escape plan and will also see advisors fit a fire alarm if you do not have one.
